Vox Pops

We interviewed three people who hit the target of our audience range on what they felt was the ideal aspects of a thriller film. We will take these interviews into account when creating our thriller film so we know what features would be best to suit our film around.

We were all there for the interviews, however it was only Sophie and Megan editted the sequences.

BBFC Research

Animated Presentations - Powered by GoAnimate.

We researched what the BBFC was and turned our findings into an animation. From doing this rearch we think our film we have a 15 rating if is was to be completted as a film as a whole. This is because there will be some violence, disturbing scenes and moderate use of language due to the environment in which the film is set.

Video Diary- 2 weeks until planning deadline

It's 1 week until our planning deadline and we are still behind schedule, but have continued to catch up. We have got alot of work done this week but not as much as we hoped. We must, and will ensure that, all our planning is completted by this Friday in preparation for shooting our film in January.

*Sophie was absent for this meeting but she has contributted into the asset list etc. this week

COSTUMES.

COSTUMES:

CHRIS-DETECTIVE.

For our main detective we have chosen to dress him in dark colours. This will represent the films dark theme and for Chris’s character‘s personality. We have chosen professional suit pants to make him appear superior and prepared, paired with a parka jacket to convey that he is always on the move and the time of shooting. As its based in England during winter a coat is appropriate. Comfortable dress shoes to keep him looking professional but comfortable enough for him to run in.

AZINA-ASSISTANT/ASSASSIN.

For the assistant we have chosen a professional but sexy look. A high waisted skirt to fit into the adult world of work with a black blazer. A red blouse will be worn underneath representing the blood she spills but also being the stereotypical sex object, her promiscuous attitude. Small heels will be worn so Azina is still able to run in them but keep with the sexy/professional look.

KATY-WIFE.

Being dead we went for an angelic look for the wife. A delicate white dress to convey innocence and her angelic behaviour, paired with silver flats.

LIAM-SERIAL KILLER.

Black basic professional clothing to give him a superior look and also his dark personality. A black beanie will also be worn so he is able to hide his identity and give him a rebel vibe.

Movie Locations

The Office Scene
Ideal location: The school lighting room

We believed that the school lighting room would best set this scene as we wish to capture the scene in a dark enclosed location and lots of lighting equitpment is provided to create a mysterious effect. There are curtains which we can slide across to hide the white walls too. Although it is messy, we can easily clean this up and bring the table, chairs and other props into the room to use. There is plenty of room to set up the camera equiptment and shoot.
Back up location: The box room beside Chaucer Admin (At school)

We chose this room as our back up location as it is small and enclosed like a personal office. Although this room is currenly already used as an office and much of the props we required are already within the room, we decided not to use this location for multiple reason. Our first concern was that there was not alot of room for the camera equiptment to be placed and to shoot our film. Also the decor is alot brighter and there are features on the wall which we would not be able to move that does not suit the dark effect we are trying to portray as they are happy and bright designs and images.

 ________________________________________________________________________
The Corridoor Scene
Ideal location: Exam Office Stairs and corridoors (At the School)

Lucky for us we already have tight corridoors and tight staircases within out school which we could use. Although the walls are of a bright white shade, once colourgraded, this could be made dark. There is no colourful designs that could possibly ruin our dark setting either. There is also plenty of room to set up our camera equiptment and shoot. This area is usually not very bussy either so it should be easier to get permission for and shoot this scene. Strait at the bottom of the stairs, there is also a door which the viewers can see leads into a plain, bricked and what could pass for, a car park area. The doors in this corridoor are also similar to the door of the

Back-up location: School Plaza's and Stairs (At the school)

Although the colours are bright this could be made darker using colour grading. There is plenty of room to shoot but the corridoor could be very busy depending on when we shoot so it is best we shoot this of an evening. If we shoot here we should also ensure the colourful banners are not in shot, and if possible, cut the coulcony out of shot as we preffered it to be enclosed. The corridoor is still however long and narrow as we had liked. When the corridoors open up onto the stairs the area widens so the area is more spacious and not narrow like we wanted. The stairs are also wider and the doors from the stairs do not lead into an open empty space like the other location. There is also a risk of distruption in this area, unlike the other location.

The Car Park Scene

Ideal location: Bexley Heath (by Cineworld)

Our Bexleyheath was a far better location, as it suited the idea of it being an underground parking lot for a detective, and we all agreed that it was suitable due to its dark, tired and grey decor. The car park is also emptier so it would be easier to set up and shoot this part of the scene.

Backup location: The Dartford Orchard Theartre Car Park

Although more convient in terms of travel, we decided that Dartford was not suitable as it was too "Airy" or had to much "light" for us to use the place. There was also alot of bright yellow colours within the car park which made it too bright. However, since we will be shooting at night, we believe that this bright effect will fade and we can easily colour grade the image to make it darker.

ASSET LIST.

In preparation for our filming we have decided to write a list of props we will need for the film.
  • Desk and chair.
  • Name plate.
  • Cup (coffee or tea).
  • Files.
  • Desk Lamp.
  • Folders.
  • Pen/Pen pot.
  • Stack of other books and files.
  • Computer or laptop.
This will help us dress the detectives office and make it appear realistic. We included everything that we could think that would appear on a detectives desk and in any films that we've seen, the detectives desk is usually cluttered.

  • Keys.
  • Gun.
  • Files (Same as before)
For the scene when the detective is running through the parking lot and being murder not alot of props are needed.

We will also need the standard camera and camera equipment such as the tripod and lighting for our thriller film.

SOME EXAMPLES:

Timeline. TITLES VS ACTION

This is a timeline that shows the order of our titles for the opening credits and the action that will be happening at this time. This will make editing and filming more effective as we will be prepared and know what we need to do.

Character Test Shots.

Serial Killer.
Our Serial Killer will be played by Liam Sewell.
He will be dressed in all black. Black pants and a simple black jumper or hoodie. Also a beanie will be worn. Research for clothing will be shown on a separate post.

The Dead Wife.
The detectives dead wife will be played by Katy Bullock.
She will be dressed in black also but will illustrate a more feminine look to give her a innocent and vulnerable look. Almost angelic but in dark colours to represent the dark way she was killed.

The Assistant/Assassin.
The double agent in our film will be played by Azina Ali.
Being a professional we have chosen to present her in a professional but sexy attire to appeal to a male audience. So high waisted pencil skirts and heels.

The Detective.
Played by Chris Rizzi.
Our detective will be dressed professional but practical. Professional enough to hold power over someone and come across as trustworthy and then practical enough that he is able to run out at any moment. So black pants, a button up and trench or parker coat.

Video Diary- 4 weeks until Planning Deadline

It's now 4 weeks until our planning deadline and we are slightly behind due to circumstances we could not control. But we aim to complete the tasks we did not complete this week within the next week, as well as completing other tasks towards our planning.

Animated Production Logo

This is our animated production company logo we will feature in the opening title sequence of our film. To do this, we simply photographed the drawing and then edited on photoshop before adding the animation on final cut as well as adding the text.

Film Moodboard

We made a moodboard of all the characters, locations and shots we took influence from in different films. The films featured in the moodboard are: Shutter Island, The Usual Suspects, Salt and Bourne Identity.

The character of David from Hide and Seek influenced the character of Detective Carter as he has a split personality and is mentally unstable, and the character of Teddy in Shutter Island influenced the idea of an unaware and targeted detective. The Character of Evelyn influenced the idea of the detectives assistant as she is seductive, adventurous and daring. She is also the master of disguise- an important role our character will have to play in order to keep her true identity a mystery. Teddy's wife in Shutter Island influenced the character of the detectives wife as she is a hallucination who appears and fades from Teddy's memories, dreams and hallucination. She is also very pale and ghostly- the ideal features of haunting ghost.

The setting and film opening was influenced by The Usual Suspects as it is based around a police station and the true suspect is unknown. Bourne Identity is also based around a busy, professional city and features many busy office scene's.
